Tired of heading to the same gym and hitting the same old machines with the same old trainer? I sure was and finally decided to tap into my creative side with JUKARI Fit to Fly, an hour-long workout with a durable three-stranded rope that’s fixed to the ceiling. And if that’s not enough, it has a 360-degree swivel point at an adjustable length with two attachment loops.
The masterminds behind the invention are Reebok and (surprise) Cirque du Soleil and the result is an innovative workout that gives the sensation of flying while strengthening and lengthening your body through cardio, strength, balance and core training; all while performing actual movements and listening to sounds from Cirque du Soleil performances.
As a kid I’ve always wanted to fly, so when I heard of the opportunity at Equinox, I just had to try it. The hour-long workout consisted of a full flying workout with a few floor exercises to fully use almost every muscle in my body.
Fitness instructor, Kristin Kenney, spent a few moments with me and shared, “Jukari is a community type of exercise, that allows people to put the fun back into fitness; it feels like an escape.”
One thing you can’t escape at JUKARI Fit to Fly is excitement, Kristin memorized everyone’s name in the beginning of class to purposely motivate us (if need be) and to keep everyone feeling involved. “I want everyone to feel special and healthy, and Jukari is a great way to do it,” said Kristin.
JUKARI Ft to Fly is only available in New York and Los Angeles, but if you’re heading out of the country you might be able to try a class there. The class will soon launch in top gyms in twelve cities around the world including Hong Kong, Mexico City, Madrid, London, Krakow, Munich, Seoul, Kuala Lampur, Buenos Aires, Santiago, and Montreal.
Finally when we were sweaty, energized and fully stretched, we concluded the workout with one last thing: a curtsy. Because really, what’s a Cirque du Soleil performance without a proper closure?
