October Fit Finds

To many New Yorkers, including myself, the crisp fall air signals that great running weather is here! Not only is autumn Marathon season, but it’s also the time for other great races, including the Nike Human Race. So for those of you who were too hot to pound the pavement this summer, now is the time to lace up those sneaks. This Fit Finds roundup includes some of my running must-haves, along with recommendations from my favorite runners.

The name pretty much says it all: Simple Cleansing Wipes are the simplest way to gently clean your skin anytime of day, but especially after running, when skin is sometimes red and sensitive. These wipes whisk away dirt, sweat and makeup residue, while refreshing and toning in one simple step. The wipes are free of alcohol and oil, and perfect for all skin types. Simple Cleansing Wipes promote a healthy, radiant complexion before or after a workout. Available at Duane Reade stores throughout New York City and http://www.duanereade.com.

I love face wipes, and couldn’t pick just one! My other pre- or post-run favorite is KORRES Pomegranate Cleansing Wipes. These instantly clean and remove makeup, rendering skin hydrated and refreshed. The Pomegranate scent is amazingly fresh and invigorating, and since it’s rich in antioxidants, the wipes will also help tighten pores while toning the skin. Could you really ask for more? Available at Sephora.com and the Korres Natural Products stores in SoHo and Brooklyn.

The one thing many runners dread, post-run, is painful chaffing or dry skin. But I found a solution to this unsightly irritation: Josie Marans’s best-selling, multi-purpose Argan Oil. Now available in a convenient, portable stick, the Argan Oil Moisturizing Stick is rich in fatty acids and vitamin E, and contains tea tree oil and avocado butter; it’s a perfect spot treatment for dry areas in need of moisture. Use it on lips, cuticles, chaffed skin, stretch marks, sunburn, insect bites, eczema, scars and more. Who would have thought that this chic gold stick could really solve all your running-induced skin problems? Available at http://www.josiemarancosmetics.com.

Excessive sweaters, here’s your chance at a blissfully dry existence. One swipe of the Derma Doctor MED e TATE wipe and embarrassing sweating and wetness will be eliminated! This technology contains a blend of peptides and botanicals that give similar antiperspirant results, without the high price tag or injections, as many other hyperhidrosis solutions require. I tried these wipes in all of the weird places one sweats, and they kept me completely dry and worry-free during a run, which was pure bliss. Available at http://www.dermadoctor.com.

What fit gal doesn’t want to smell wonderful and be charitable at the same time? As a young breast cancer survivor who had hair and skin scarring issues after undergoing cancer fighting treatments, Blaire Kessler made it her mission to create an effective, 100% pure, natural skin and hair care range to change the lives of others. It was from this goal that Pristine Beauty was formed. All the products are free of sulfates, silicones, glycols, parabens, phthalates, mineral oil and artificial dyes; but they are also certified vegan and cruelty free. Pristine Beauty donates a portion of proceeds to the Young Survival Coalition™ and the Cancer Prevention Coalition all year, for all products. So feel good and smell great by picking up Pristine Beauty’s Take a Whiff deodorant. It helps with perspiration and unwanted odor and smells like a creamsicle.
