Hydrafacial or Microdermabrasion? Only Your Skin Knows Best

Purely Natural Medical Spa, located in the Williamsburg neighborhood of Brooklyn, offers an array of top of the line, non-invasive spa treatments including hydrofacials, photofacials, laser treatments and non-surgical liposuction. I went to experience one of their most sought after services, the Hydrafacial, considered “the next generation of microdermabrasion.”

This new type of facial provides deep pore cleansing, exfoliation of dead skin cells, extraction and skin hydration all at once. Unlike regular microdermabrasion, it can be done on all skin types, including very sensitive ones, and does not cause any redness.

How does it work? You first get an assessment of your skin’s condition through the Emage skin analyser, that scans your skin accurately to determine its levels of moisture, wrinkles, rosacea, acne and sun damage. You can then see all of your problem areas lit up on a screen and the medical assistant discusses your customized Hydrafacial treatment. The aesthetician exfoliated my dead skin cells and extracted a few impurities with a “hydrapeel” tip and an anti-oxidant serum. What is novel about this device is how it cleanses the skin and moisturizes deeply at the same time. Proper moisturization is most women’s main issue as they age. Their skin just does not get enough of it. A cocktail of antioxidants, peptides, and hyaluronic acid were pumped into my skin and half an hour later I walked out of the spa looking radiant with much more dewy, youthful-looking skin. I have never been a big fan of microdermabrasion because it irritates my sensitive skin. but I would do a hydrofacial again especially in winter to combat dryness, dullness and the winter blues. Nothing lifts my vain spirits, I must admit, like seeing glowing skin in a mirror.

If you live in Williamsburg, make this spa part of your regular skincare routine. You will get addicted to your skin’s powerful radiance with this non-invasive treatment after just one try. The spa is owned by Dr. Cascya Charlot, a Harvard Medical School-trained, board-certified physician in Allergy and Immunology who has received extensive training in aesthetics. Throughout her career, she has received numerous accolades including the prestigious Patients’ Choice “Most Compassionate Award” of 2011 and 2012.
