Have Your Manicure in Bed

Imagine a place that feels like a glam hotel, with the luxury of old Hollywood, combined with the warmth of a cozy living room. The dream is real when you wake up in bed, well, the Bed of Nails Nail Bar that is. Bed of Nails offers luxury nail treatments in a unique and relaxing atmosphere with décor that includes exposed brick walls, art deco style chandeliers, and black velvet high backed tufted chairs with crystal buttons.

This cozy spa recently opened in Harlem, and caters to a sophisticated clientele that wants to have a private, unhurried experience while receiving a topnotch manicure or pedicure. Even the nail polish selections are high end, including brands from Deborah Lippmann, Chanel, Tom Ford and Marc Jacobs. Getting your nails done at this salon is like having a manicurist in your home while you sit back and unwind with quiet music playing in the background.

Owner, Candice Idehen is a celebrity nail stylist whose clients include Mary Louise Parker, Jessica Alba and Estelle. Idehen has also styled nails for the runways of several fashion designers including, Louis Vuitton, Victoria Beckham, and Calvin Klein. Now Idehen has brought the celebrity nail experience to men and women who appreciate upscale style. She told me that she designed the salon herself, and that the theme is a play on the word “bed.” The nail stylists wear t-shirts emblazoned with the phrase, “Polish Me in Bed.” The menu of nail services is entitled, “The Headboard,” and the men’s pedicure is called, “Play with These in Bed Signature Pedicure.”

On my visit to Bed of Nails I had the Make them Kissable Signature Pedicure that was a lingering, aromatherapeutic experience. This pedicure was easily one of the best I have ever had, mainly due to the calm and soothing way it was performed. My nail stylist, Jamila, took her time with every step, and paid attention to the details. First, I soaked my feet in a rose infused milk bath. All pedicures are done using a large gray ceramic bowl, which is a departure from most nail salons that use jetted footbaths. The bowls are used to ensure that each footbath is as sanitary as possible. After meticulous grooming of my nails and feet, Jamila applied a pumpkin spice exfoliating scrub on my feet and legs. The scrub was super fine and did not scratch my skin at all, but left it feeling like silk. The scent was incredible and began my aromatherapy journey. The lavender clay mask was infused with lavender essential oil and the relaxing scent penetrated my skin for an ultimately calming experience. The final paraffin foot treatment with heated paraffin booties left me wanting to doze off.

I look forward to returning to this oasis in Harlem when I need a relaxing escape, and of course, to get my nails done too. Idehen plans to expand salon services to include facials and other spa treatments soon. In the mean time she wants everyone to “Come back to Bed.”
