Where can you go any time of year to swim, see concerts, shows, gamble, play golf, dine and get pampered in a spa, all under one roof? It’s not Las Vegas, but it is a mini version, just under two hours from New York City. It’s Mohegan Sun in Uncasville, Connecticut.
During my weekend visit to Mohegan Sun, I discovered that you do not need to gamble at all when you vacation there. It is the perfect year-round getaway for couples, families and single travelers. There really is something for everyone.
Mohegan Sun is located on 185 acres along the Thames River and is home to three casinos, nearly 1,600 hotel rooms located in the Earth and Sky Towers, two spas, a golf course, over 90 shops, restaurants, and bars as well as three entertainment venues, including a 10,000-seat arena.
There are several towers to stay in at Mohegan Sun, and my room was in the new Earth Tower, which has the Mandara Spa conveniently located on the first floor. I decided to have the Mandara Customized Massage, for some quick relaxation the day I arrived. My massage was expertly done, and included a coconut oil scalp massage and paraffin foot treatment, to add to the relaxation. It’s great to be able to go back up to your room or sit by the pool after your treatment. There are two pools in the Sky and Earth Towers. I sat at the Sun Terrace Pool in the Sky Tower, with an indoor pool that extends to an outdoor seating area if the weather is warm enough. On my visit, I was able to take advantage of the outdoor space. Although the resort is huge, there were still plenty of lounge chairs and tables available, so I never feel cramped.
Dining is effortless since there are infinite options, but I recommend Michael Jordan’s Steakhouse for dinner. The food is incredible, and the service is top notch. We had one of the best waiters I have ever had during our dinner. If only we could clone him so he could wait on tables everywhere.
After dinner, there are always shows and venues to dance in if you desire. Check the schedule before you go to make sure that there are concerts you want to see.
There’s almost too much to do but you can decide to do nothing but relax and shop, which is what I essentially did. If you bring children there is a Kids Quest activity space for young children, and a Cyber Quest Arcade for older ones. Whatever you decide to do, you simply can’t go wrong with a Mohegan Sun weekend getaway. Oh, and make sure to get Krispy Crème donuts for the ride back.
