This summer the Fancy Food Show in NYC at the Javits Center featured delights for both gourmets and gourmands alike. We traipsed through the food-laden aisles to gather the best of the show for your perusal, so you’ll know what to reach for in the middle of the big game or stash in the desk at work. Here’s a gustatory roundup:
The International flavor of the Fancy Food Show (no pun intended) is what makes it so exciting, and Chile was very much in the spotlight this year with its premium foods, spices, oils and wines. Chilean foods such as quinoa grain puffs, avocado oil, quince spread, the cherimoya fruit, Murta shrub jam or liqueur, pinon seeds (similar to pine nuts), the carica fruit, Ulmo tree honey, Pantagonian Wagyu ham, and much more are appreciated for their healthy properties, flavor, and wholesome origins, cultivated with significantly less agrochemicals than other global regions. Bacon is a salty treat beloved my many, but a lip balm flavor too? To quote Sarah Palin, you betcha. The folks at J&Ds Products have created bacon lip balm, along with Bacon Salt (in original, hickory and peppered), Baconnaise (bacon mayonnaise), BaconPOP popcorn, Bacon ranch dressing and Malt Salt, a malt vinegar-flavored seasoning salt that’s perfect for fish and chips. Founders Justin and Dave’s motto is “everything should taste like bacon,” and you’ll agree when you try their products. Order up at http://www.jdfoods.net. Believe it or not, they even sell bacon infant formula, guys.

Chip brands were featured at the show, and a few of the best-in-show were Hippie Chips and Beanitos chips. Hippie Chips have a rock and roll brand persona, combined with low-calorie and gluten free chips in six satisfying flavors that are light and crunchy. They can be found at Westside Market stores and at http://www.hippiechips.com. Beanitos are corn and gluten-free, high in fiber and omega 3s, and provide 4 grams of protein per serving.
