Metro Man Selects the Best Shirts for Spring

It’s finally here! The sun is shining, the trees are budding, flowers are starting to bloom and we are shedding our winter coats and scarves. While you were dealing with the winter doldrums, I was getting ready for spring apparel. Following are the top four spring shirts for men this season. Bold, bright and made with quality fabrics, each one is distinct in their own right.

MagnaReady Plaid

#4: MagnaReady. I chose these shirts for several reasons: style, quality and ingenuity. The brilliance behind these garments comes from CEO, Maura Horton who started the biz making shirts for her husband who suffers from a debilitating disease — they function so it makes getting dressed and undressed stress-free. For those with limited mobility such as arthritis, these shirts close and open effortlessly due to magnets disguised as buttons. The collection is not only for the physically challenged but every guy who needs and wants a fresh, wrinkle-free shirt in various colors and styles, especially when rushed or pressed for time. My favorite is the Pinpoint Blue Gingham Magnetic Closure Oxford.

With Father’s Day approaching, this makes a great gift.

#3: Twillory. I love the fit and I’m a big fan of their plaids. The selection is vast and the quality of each shirt is superior without a hefty price tag. They are currently running a special on button down shirts, 4 for $199. Make sure you check out their non-iron twill and purple gingham styles. I also recommend their pastel check style.

Twillory also offers a re-purpose program. All shirts come with a postage paid plastic bag. Put in your slightly worn shirts and the company will re-purpose them to help the poor, homeless and disaster relief victims.

#2: Luchiano Visconti. Vivid and eye-catching, the colors and patterns from this company are outrageous this season. From dots to paisley, radiant stripes and colorful checks, I’m a fan of their complex prints that are literally like wearing a work of art — one such print contains over 15 shades of color. I compare the line to a Chuck Close or Jackson Pollock painting. Another style reminds me of a large candy dish of Skittles. These are perfect for date night, special occasions and when you want to make a statement with your wardrobe.

#1: Makers & Riders. The shirt/jacket is my pick for this spring. This garment is made with cotton, nylon and DWR finishing that fights sweat, beverage spills, wind, rain and every element you encounter during travel. I’m a big fan of this shirt/jacket in vibrant orange. It features left and right hidden pockets, a chest pocket with concealed routing for headphone cables, expandable seam for increased freedom of movement and just looks great. I recently wore it to a Broadway show where it took the spotlight.
