There’s truly something magical about looking over at your family and seeing the enthralled looks of awe and the smiles on their faces as they enjoy the circus for the first time (or second or third). Their eyes light up as they laugh at the silly clowns and witness flying acrobats soaring through the air and landing on stilts. Fortunately, the circus is in town this month! Now through March 13th, the Big Apple Circus will be in Bridgewater, New Jersey and again in Queens, New York May 15th through June 12th performing the circus extravaganza, The Grand Tour!
Set in the 1920s and featuring acts from the four corners of the globe, the Grand Tour uses ships, trains, automobiles, and airplanes as the backdrop for breathtaking acts of wonder. This exciting show, accompanied by the live seven-piece Big Apple Circus Band, is chock full of tried and true circus favorites as well as new and unique acts. You’ll be thoroughly entertained by talented jugglers, clowns, domestic and rescue animals, flying acrobats and a variety of other circus artists from all over the world. It all takes place in one circus ring under a quintessential climate-controlled Big Top, where no seat is more than 50 feet from ringside (though be warned… the closer you are, the more likely you’ll end up actually in the show!).
The show runs 1 hour and 50 minutes with a 20-minute intermission during which children can enjoy pony rides in the circus ring. Tickets are also available for a special 75-minute show with no intermission adapted for children and audience members with autism.
You might not escape the Big Apple Circus without multiple trips to the cotton candy station or souvenir stand but you’ll definitely leave with a clown car full of happy memories.
