Help Save A Life – Not all of them have nine lives

My Irish Setter Darby loves sticking her head out the window when we go for car-rides. With ears flying, she looks like she has her own wings. When I look at her through my side view mirror, I see her happy drooling face and it breaks my heart to disappoint her when we hit the highway – that’s when I close the window. Being a worrisome mom, I get concerned that she may be hit by a stray pebble. I already got a nick in my windshield recently, I’d hate to think what damage that same pebble would have done if it hit her eye.

So when I came across Doggles, at Dogality (, I wanted one immediately. Unlike ordinary sunglasses for dogs, Doggles are shatterproof and protect dog’s eyes from foreign objects, wind, and UV light . You can change the lens color anytime – for fashion or function. Dogality’s philosophy is that dogs don’t have personality, they have “dogality”! It’s a great store for funky, fun dog wear. More importantly, they strongly support animal charities like the French Bulldog Rescue Network (

Being charitable and supporting causes have become all the rage lately. You can’t walk the streets of New York without spying a brightly hued band on someone’s wrist. Add another worthwhile cause to your wrist with the Spay & Neuter/Adopt a Shelter Animal Charity Wrist Band. You can get one from Chez Puppy ( that boasts the yummiest gourmet pet treats, including wheat free treats for allergic dogs. By buying a wrist band from Chez Puppy, they give 100% to support the Tri County Humane Society in Florida. (, or you can go to the Tri County Humane Society website directly to get one.

Chez Puppy, also supports Canine Companions for Independence (, a national nonprofit that enhances the lives of people with disabilities by providing assistance dogs.

Adopting an animal is a real lifelong commitment that requires love and patience. But the loyalty and happiness that gets returned by your pet is immeasurable. Unfortunately not everyone sees it that way, and organizations like Humane Societies and Rescue Groups play such an immense role in helping abandoned animals. Sentient Creatures ( is the primary group dedicated to consistently rescuing Harlem’s abandoned, abused, and neglected “junkyard dogs.” In the 27 years since they first began their rescue efforts, Sentient Creatures has rescued and placed more than 3,500 of these abused and abandoned animals in loving homes.

So hopefully August will be an inspirational and charitable month for you as it is for us here.
