Avalon Organics, Jason and Alba Botanica Launch Women’s Education Campaign

How great is it that a company that brings you amazing natural beauty products also supports women’s education in developing countries? Jason, Avalon Organics, and Alba Botanica recently announced a three-year partnership with CARE, an organization working to fight global poverty. As part of this commitment, the brands have been named the founding partners of the Empower Her Through Education campaign. The partnership marks the first charitable partnership between all three brands, which are owned by the Hain Celestial Group.

The Empower Her Through Education campaign is dedicated to eliminating barriers to educating young women, such as violence, hunger, child marriage, and repressive ideological beliefs. The campaign will support many of CARE’s ongoing global efforts, and share the inspiring stories of young women from around the world on its web site.

Hain Celestial Group and CARE share the core value of improving lives, which is the underlying message of this campaign, the company said in a statement. Julie Marchant-Houle, general manager of personal care at Hain Celestial, told BeautyNewsNYC in an email, “As a leading organic and natural products company providing consumers with A Healthier Way of Life™, we are inspired by the opportunity to help improve the lives of girls and women across the globe through the elimination of educational barriers.” She went on to say such obstacles affect millions of impoverished women. These women are the most at risk; as such, they “have the most power to break the cycle of poverty in their families and their communities,” said Marchant-Houle.

To get the campaign going, Hain Celestial is asking everyone to sign a petition to end child marriage, a significant barrier to education for women on a global scale. Child brides are unlikely to complete their education, and are at increased risk of being physically abused, contracting HIV and other diseases, and dying while pregnant or giving birth. The petition is available here.

Hain Celestial also urges people to share messages of solidarity on Twitter, using the hashtag #EmpowerHer. It doesn’t matter if the message is 140 characters or one word. The goal is to show support for the empowerment of girls and women through education.

Each Hain Celestial brand supports one pillar of the Empower Her initiative. JASON is focused on working with mothers and their communities to support and value their daughters’ education. Avalon Organics will advocate for policy changes that will allow girls to attend school and foster their academic success. And Alba Botanica will focus on growing girl power on a global scale.

These programs reflect the brand’s core values, and address barriers to education on an individual, relational and structural level,” the company said.

Happy Coincidence

Just in time to kick off Empower Her Through Education, JASON, Avalon Organics, and Alba Botanica are debuting new products!

JASON Sheer Spray Lotions

These lotions are made from 95 percent natural ingredients, according to the company. They are also packaged in spray bottles that use compressed air as the only propellant. The lotions are available in two formulas: soothing aloe vera with chamomile and ginseng extracts for sensitive skin, and softening cocoa butter with shea butter and vitamin E for dry skin.

Avalon Organics Gluten-Free Hair and Body Collection

The company said this collection is the first Gluten-Free Certification Organization-certified gluten-free personal care product line that is also certified to NSF/ANSI 305 Standard for Personal Care Products containing organic ingredients. The collection includes a Gluten-Free Cucumber Shampoo & Conditioner, Gluten-Free Cucumber Hand & Body Lotion, and Gluten-Free Cucumber Bath & Shower Gel.

Alba Botanica Very Emollient Coconut Rescue Body Lotion

This lotion is a blend of unrefined coconut oil, coconut milk, and shea butter. It uses only unrefined, virgin coconut oil that is cold pressed from fresh coconut meat without the use of heat or chemicals, the company said. This process should allow it to maintain more skin-nourishing phytochemicals, vitamins, and antioxidants to provide relief for dry skin.
