Let’s face it, winter was challenging spiritually, mentally, physically and above all, facially. I was determined not to emerge from hibernation with a reptilian demeanor. I used a humidifier in my bedroom. I faithfully moisturized every millimeter of desiccated dermis. In an effort to stay hydrated I drank water, my least fave beverage. If I had not done these things my skin would have been worse –but that’s tough to imagine. Fortunately, winter does not last forever and we all have the opportunity to look ourselves in the mirror now and ask: what to do to re-new??
First of all, spring clean your routine. Toss all the pots, jars and tubes of goo that are old, dried up and/or are never-gonna- be-used. I also toss anything containing chemical ingredients like paraben, phthalate, sulfate and artificial fragrance. Just sayin’. After this purifying purge, replace at once with all things Indie Lee. Her products are elegant and effective, contain nary a toxin, are never tested on animals and will simplify your day-to-day. I am a fan of this must-have trio: Brightening Cleanser, which greets you with an energizing burst of strawberry oil, CO Q-10 Toner, which contains hyaluronic acid, chamomile, sage and extracts of papaya leaf and cucumber, and Squalene Facial Oil, whose only ingredient is squalene oil, derived from our friend the olive. This minimalist facial oil is readily absorbed and can be used day and night. I promise: this potent trio creates clarity in your complexion. Who doesn’t want that?

Juara Avocado Banana Moisture Mask and Clove Flower & Turmeric Anti-Aging Serum are effective, delightful and instantly leave you with a feeling of well being. Though they contain things you might have in your kitchen, trust me, the results transcend anything you might care to concoct. The moisture mask instantly restores, hydrates and soothes (I’m wearing it now as I write) and the serum smoothes overnight while you snooze.
I recently spent a week in sunny California and plied my face daily with Pratima’s Neem Rose Face Sunscreen. For once, I saved myself from sun damage without breaking out. The lotion is light in consistency, readily absorbed and lasts– leaving no ghostly whiteness as many sunscreens do. When I was in India, I saw people using neem twigs as toothbrushes and I know neem oil nourishes the hair but who knew it was an effective sunscreen? From now on it’s my new go-to. The Rejuvenating Pearl Cream is just what the ayurvedic doctor ordered for the driest of dry skin. It contains 22 amino acids, herbs, minerals, essential oils, lovely rose water and a heaping helping of pure pearl shell powder to leave you looking polished and perfectly radiant. Even if you are not a pearl-wearing type o’ girl, you will treasure this product’s power to rejuvenate and restore.
(My editor Candice doesn’t love when I digress but bear with me, I land on topic.) When you are done renewing, a nap is nice. Use a spritz of Amala’s aroma apothecary Relax Room & Linen Mist in your favorite curl-up corner. Ahhh, wild lavender from the south of France. You drift, you dream, you awaken refreshed and ready to tackle a touch of spring-cleaning—but I say get out there and face this fine spring day.
