This summer I’ve been using some simple products that make me more comfortable in my own skin– and while we’re often told to get out of our comfort zones, I say take your time and enjoy your stay.
I am a lifelong fan of Dr. Bronner’s and as soon as it’s above 72 degrees I start soaping up with Dr. Bronner’s Magic Pure Castile Soap in peppermint. I don’t have an outdoor shower but if I did, this product would take pride of place. This morning I transcended the confines of my indoor shower by exfoliating with a simple mix of brown sugar and Dr. Bronner’s White Kernel Organic Virgin Coconut Oil. I used the white kernel oil for its “mild and delicate flavor” but you might prefer Whole Kernel for a nuttier flavor– since you can also use this perfect potion for everything from roasting sweet potatoes to topping popcorn.
I emerged from my private rain forest scented like an irresistible cookie. But the real benefit was my newly revealed skin: so soft, so smooth. When I went to get a pedi that afternoon I was able to skip the perfunctory scrub on my legs and feet. If your skin needs more of a molting you could switch things up and substitute coarse Kosher salt for the brown sugar. You will still smell like a cookie but the skin you are in will no longer resemble something scaly that slithers.
Dr. Bronner’s is democratically priced for the people, fair trade, biodegradable and packaged in 100% consumer recycled plastic bottles. Do I endorse Dr. Bronner’s? Oh yes. I have written zillions of taglines but none compare to theirs: All-One!

After my shower, I continued to oil up with Drunk Elephant’s Virgin Marula Luxury Facial Oil. So, what’s Marula oil you ask and more to the point, what’s in it for you? It not only relieves dryness on the face but also nails, cuticles, frizzy ends and any other body part that needs hydration and or/healing without any greasy residue. I love using it at bedtime and waking up to see the after glow. Marula oil is extracted from the kernels of the Marula tree, known in more scientific circles as Sclerocarya birrea and is native to Southern Africa. Reasons to love it: it’s high in antioxidants and is therefore a powerful and healing anti-ager. Add a few drops of Drunk Elephant’s Shaba Complex Eye Serum with copper peptides, co-Q10 and edelweiss stem cells and you’re good to go. The serum is readily absorbed, soothing and leaves you looking and feeling renewed.

After this simple summer regimen I am ready to hit the road—but the world is indeed a dirty place and I wouldn’t want to leave home without these genius wipes from Savvy Traveler. Klean Upz are antibacterial and soothe and restore hands and bod with aloe & vitamin E. Take Offz removes the residue of our mean streets and hydrates with vitamin E, aloe and cucumber. Toss in your tote and head for the road not taken.
