Eloise might’ve had to find a temporary place to dwell while the Plaza Hotel was undergoing construction, but she’s back in her home sweet home and living it up NYC spa-style! The Caudalie Vinotherapie Spa housed in the famed Fifth Avenue landmark brings luxury to a whole new level with this internationally known, wine-inspired spa.
NYC’s Plaza Hotel
After walking through the traditionally lavish Plaza Hotel lobby with its marble floors and creamy vanilla-hued décor, I entered the decadently rich chocolatey world of Caudalie. Although simplistically modern and chic in design, this spa makes you feel like you’re tucked away in a cozy wine cellar enjoying a bottle of velvety Bordeaux.
Before my treatment, I enjoyed a few minutes in the lounge area snuggled up in my white robe and taking note of the organic spa cuisine menu and variety of wines by the glass offered and even wine flights to accompany specific spa treatments. This is certainly the perfect spa to bring your wine connoisseur husband to; and with an inviting VIP couples treatment room, complete with Jacuzzi tub and private steam room, your hubby won’t go screaming and kicking to the spa. He might even be adventurous and try a wine barrel bath treatment while he’s there.
Since I was, after all, at a Vinotherapie spa, I thought it was only appropriate to get their signature Crushed Cabernet Scrub. Grape-seeds, honey, oil and brown sugar make up this totally organic, good-enough-to-eat scrub. Actually, all Caudalie skincare products (sold on the premises and online) are free of parabens, phenoxyethanol, mineral oil, artificial colorings or sodium laureth sulfate. No ingredients of animal origin are used, products are not tested on animals and a maximum of natural active ingredients can be found in all products. They follow a code of “cosm-ethics”, if you will.
Though personally, I usually opt for a facial or massage when I go to the spa, one should not overlook the body scrub on the spa menu. Scrubs are great before tanning. They also drain toxins and improve circulation while simultaneously nourishing and softening the skin. And if you’re the type who enjoys the exfoliating salts of your pedicure to the massage-with-lotion portion, then the body scrub is not to be missed – and the Crushed Cabernet Scrub at Caudalie is on par with the best, if not better.
I will admit, the sticky walk to the shower while wrapped in the honey-covered vegetable paper is not the most comfortable, nor is it particularly glamorous, but otherwise, the exfoliating grape seeds felt wonderful as my spa therapist buffed my skin to smoothness. Although you shouldn’t expect a full-on massage during this treatment, the spa therapist still has to get the concoction on you somehow. In other words, you’ll be able to relax and enjoy the application of the scrub and maybe even fall asleep during the heavenly scalp massage portion of the treatment like I did. Immediately upon rinsing off the mixture in the rain shower, I noticed how much softer my skin felt. The final touch was the application of Caudalie’s expertly-blended Contouring Concentrate and Nourishing Body Lotion.
I definitely see myself spending more time at the Plaza Hotel, especially with the inclusion of the internationally renowned full-service Caudalie Vinotherapie Spa. So, Eloise, I hope you don’t mind some company!
