If you want to take a short trip before the summer is over, the Providence Biltmore and The Spa at the Providence Biltmore is perfect. Conveniently located downtown near sightseeing and restaurants, the Biltmore can be your anchor to a relaxing summer weekend near the Providence River. The Biltmore even has a spa that rivals the best hotel spas that I have visited.
The spa, renovated several years ago, has a decor that soothes your mind as soon as you enter. Bathed in cream and light blue-grey tones, with plants and flowers to add color, the spa draws you in and makes you want to stay. The relaxation area has tiled walls, candles and lighting on a dimmer that allows you to make it as dark or light as you want. The choice of teas and cucumber infused water only adds to the ambience. I could have stayed there a long time, unlike some relaxation rooms that are bustling with activity and conversation.
The spa offers facials, massages, body treatments and nail services for men and women. Spa Director, Deb Garman told me that the spa also offers hair and make-up services that are popular among bridal parties. There is a private area that bridal parties can use to prepare for a wedding or to hold an event.
During my visit, I had the Island Bliss Pedicure that was in a small and secluded area that helped create a relaxing atmosphere. A warm, scented neck pillow also didn’t hurt. This pedicure was one of the best I have ever had, mainly because the attention to detail was phenomenal. My toes were done to perfection, and even several weeks later, my pedicure was still nearly perfect. I went back and sat in the relaxation room again after my pedicure and meditated to the candles for a while, quite reluctant to leave.
After my relaxing spa visit I had lunch at Circe, one of the many great restaurants in Providence, and then took a boat tour on the Providence River. You can even take a gondola ride and feel as if you are in Venice, Italy. Whatever you decide to do, you will leave feeling refreshed and totally removed from the fast pace of New York City.
